Tour Guide Africa Series #8: Samson Safaris

Tour Guide Africa with Samson Safari

Today on the Tour Guide Africa (TGAfrica) series, we have Kimani Waiti, a local experience creator based in Nairobi, Kenya, where he runs Samson Safaris. We learnt about his business, his favourite African destinations, and much more in this episode.

Hello Kimani. Tell us a little bit about Samson Safaris.

Samson Safaris is a family-owned tour and travel company that offers clients from all over the world custom-made holiday services. Luxury Bush and Beach Safaris, Family and Group Tours, and Individual getaways are just some of the vacation packages we offer. Hotel reservations, plane tickets, and executive vehicle hire are among the other services that we offer at Samson Safaris. We began the Company in 2009 after being in the industry for over a year. My passion for travel and discovering new destinations propelled this.

What destinations in Africa do you organize tours and activities to? How many tourists have you organized a vacation for, if you were to give an estimate?

We’ve served over 5000 tourists since 2009, assisting them in planning local tours and experiences in Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Uganda, and Rwanda.

So, tell me about your most memorable experiences since founding Samson Safaris ?

That is definitely going to be the day I went on a Hot Air Balloon Ride above Amboseli National Park and had a bird’s-eye view of Mt Kilimanjaro. This is a new type of activity that can be done at the Amboseli National Park.

What’s your top 5 advice for a traveler visiting Africa?

  • Book tailor-made and private tours to guarantee you get the finest possible travel experience while also allowing you to be flexible during your vacation.
  • Book early to prevent disappointments at the last minute, especially during high seasons.
  • Have a vacation budget in mind to help the consultant come up with the greatest holiday ideas and bargains.
  • Depending on the sort of activities you’ll be doing, bring sunscreen, safari clothing, comfortable shoes, and other items.
  • Apply for visas ahead of time, as most countries give them online.

Where would you tell a tourist who is visiting Africa for the very first time to visit? When is the ideal time to visit?

That would be the Maasai Mara National Reserve for the annual Wildebeest Migration. Throughout the year, although July through October is the best time to come.

Let’s talk about the pandemic; travel has been one of the primary casualties. How has it affected your business, and do you think travel will return soon?

We were hit, and we had no choice but to close the business and operate from home. We distribute the earnings based on the number of new jobs that come in. Yes, we expect travel to resume, and we are already extending special offers and discounts to our customers.

In the last episode, we interviewed Samuel Rukundo, an experience creator based in Entebbe, Uganda, where he runs Primate Journeys Africa and leads fantastic adventures. Do check it out here.
